"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown: Where Is He Now?

Monty Brown was only intertwined within the professional wrestling industry for nearly 7 years, but the former National Football League linebacker certainly made an immediate impression upon debuting. He was ultra charismatic, athletic and undeniably intense. In reality, he checked off all the boxes that would attract any promotion while possessing the potential to become a major draw, but sadly, it would never fully come to fruition.

After a reputable run in TNA that saw him quickly rise the ranks and even become one of their most popular stars during the early years, the company ultimately decided to have Jeff Jarrett retain the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. After coming up short on multiple occasions, Monty Brown’s TNA contract would expire and he would head off to greener pastures or so it would seem.

Upon signing with World Wrestling Entertainment, the perplexing decision was made to repackage Monty Brown as "The Alpha Male" Marquis Cor Von until finally changing the spelling to Marcus. Gone was his uptempo theme song that would act as an extra jolt of energy as it was replaced with the jazzy “Smooth” that seemed entirely out of place.

While Marcus Cor Von still maintained several elements of the Monty Brown presentation, such as The Pounce and "The Alpha Male" moniker, this appeared like an entirely different performer lacking direction. It’s clear WWE was utterly unaware of the potential they had on hand with Monty Brown.

After a forgettable run highlighted by his appearance at WrestleMania 23, where he competed with The New Breed against the ECW Originals, Cor Von would soon take several months off due to personal reasons citing family issues.

By September, Marcus Cor Von was officially granted his release from WWE.

As first reported by WWE Mobile Alerts, WWE has come to terms on the release of ECW Superstar Marcus Cor Von as of September 19. We wish him the best in all his future endeavors.

Monty Brown would then seemingly retire from professional wrestling altogether and quietly step away from the spotlight.

Where Is He Now?

Monty would relocate to Saginaw, Michigan to focus on personal training and developed the Alpha-1 Fitness program.

In a 2009 article with MLive, Monty Brown commented on his relationship with WWE.

“I had to take some time away for a while on my own terms, but I kept a good rapport with the company and can come back at any time. I’ve got a lot going and I had a lot going (before leaving the WWE).”

The article also noted that he was excited for the anticipated launch of his own athletic clothing brand called Scripture Clothing.

Also in 2009, The Alpha Male would be advertised to make an appearance during Cinco de Mayo Mayhem VII to benefit City Rescue Mission of Saginaw.

In 2011, Monty would bring his training program to life in the form of a fitness facility. Alpha 1 Fitness was located at 2865 Bay Road in Saginaw, Michigan.

Note: As of 2020, the fitness facility appears to be no longer in business and has been converted to Mid Michigan Fitness

Monty Brown officially joined Twitter in December 2013 but noted infrequently checking his account, which led to a minor following.

In 2016, MLive, a top source for news, sports, business and entertainment across Michigan, uploaded a video that featured Monty Brown firing up the Freeland Falcons before their game against Frankenmuth.

During a WWE live event in Saginaw, Michigan on February 10, 2019, Monty visited some old friends backstage. The next day, his old TNA comrade, Robert Roode, would upload a photo of the two together on Twitter.

On May 4, 2019, Monty Brown was scheduled for an event titled “May The 4th” in Noblesville, Indiana, to benefit Brady Destroys Cancer. Kevin Fertig, who teamed with Monty in WWECW as Kevin Thorn, told Fightful that Monty was all too happy to make an appearance.

Monty's been a friend of mine for a long time. Even after he left WWE we'd reach out and talk a bit. Every couple of months ago, we'd stay in touch. Monty's (got some friends and family) that play on our football team. When all of this, I talked to my friend Kevin Myers, who is close with Monty and said 'let's get him on this, let's get him out of retirement, one day only.' It's a special moment. Leading into (WrestleMania 23), we were tied at the hip. Some of the coolest memories ever and it made sense to have him a part of this with me to raise money for this event.

Despite various call-outs from Moose along with rumblings that IMPACT has expressed interest in bringing The Alpha Male back for an appearance, Monty Brown seems comfortable with his decision to hang up the boots. At 50 years old, the chances of a miraculous in-ring return seems improbable, but as is the case with professional wrestling, never say never.

UPDATE:

Monty Brown resurfaced in a video shared by Lance Archer on October 14 endorsing the Murderhawk as AEW World Champion ahead of his bout against Jon Moxley.
